Determination

Determination

Who do you think I am describing?

He failed in his first business as a storekeeper.

He failed in his first attempt to obtain political office.

He failed when he sought the office of Speaker of his state legislature.

He failed in his first attempt to go to Congress.

He failed when he sought the appointment to the United States Land Office.

He failed when he ran for the United States Senate – twice.

He failed when he sought the nomination for the Vice-Presidency.

Believe it or not, it was our beloved President, Abraham Lincoln, who was elected president in 1860 after an apparent life-time of failures.

So the lesson here is, as the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, is famously reputed to have said during the Second World War,

Never. Never. Never give up.

Determination is an essential attribute of the true leader. Let nothing put you off. Let nothing dampen your quest for success: not failure or misfortune. When you are knocked down, get back-up again. Let failure make you stronger in your determination to be successful.
